FROM: BRENT BAKER, SC COUNCIL SECRETARY

DATE: 13 FEBRUARY, 2002

The meeting convened at 7:30 pm at Zorba's Restaurant in Columbia, SC. The attendees were Nancy Gunderson, Marilene Guardia-Baker, and I.

MEETING SCHEDULE
Council meetings are open to all IEEE members. At a minimum, Council Officers and Section Chairs are expected. If you cannot attend, please send me your updates. Section Chairs may send an alternate attendee. Please make announcement of these meetings in your local section and chapter meetings and newsletters. The next meeting is:
Friday, April 5, at SoutheastCon - no meeting time or place at the conference has been set.

FINANCIAL
Balance - unknown as of January 17. It is assumed that the Council still owes SC Council of Engineering and Surveying Societies for the 2001 dues. The recently paid dues were for the 2000 fiscal year. Central Savannah is expected to pay their Council dues for the past two years.

BYLAWS
The proposed bylaws have been posted on the Council web site. On the main page for the Council, click Bylaws, then "Click here for proposed bylaws". The Columbia Section has approved the bylaws- still waiting on word from other sections. As sections vote on the proposed bylaws, the vote results need to be sent to Brent Baker.

AWARDS
No awards nominations have been received.

STUDENT PAPER CONTEST
A tentative date of March 9 has been selected to hold the student paper contest provided that USC has any entries(only entries so far are from Clemson). The Council has set a date of February 25 as a deadline for when student papers need to be ready - if not, the contest will be cancelled for this year.

NEW BUSINESS
Officer confirmation reports were filled out by those in attendance at the meeting - need remaining officers to fill out their reports
Marilene attended the Region 3 Excom meeting in Atlanta, GA on January 19 where she presented the status of SoutheastCon 2002 via the minutes of the January 7 SoutheastCon committee meeting as well as the following:
· The Keynote speaker for the conference had cancelled - looking for any good ideas/suggestions for a replacement
· Sponsorships were at a total of $500 with $5000 pledged - the $5000 pledged plus an additional $4000 has been received since then
· Student activities were going well
Marilene has planned to attend the next SCCESS meeting to be held in Columbia on February 26 at 3:30p.m.
Marilene wants to initiate an e-conference meeting for the executive committee members for sometime during the year - will discuss in more detail at the next meeting
