COUNCIL SECRETARY The meeting
convened at 7:00 pm at Embassy Suites in Columbia, SC. The attendees
were Nancy Gunderson, Marilene Guardia-Baker, John Montague, Steve
Carroll, Allen Thomas, Lee Stogner, Russell Albright, Tim Washington,
David Mills, Gary Loughry, Saliman Isa, and Brent Baker. Meeting Schedule Council
meetings are open to all IEEE members. At a minimum, Council Officers
and Section Chairs are expected. If you cannot attend, please send
me your updates. Section Chairs may send an alternate attendee.
Please make announcement of these meetings in your local section
and chapter meetings and newsletters. The next meeting is: Wednesday,
June 12 @ 7:30 p.m.(e-conference); Face-to face meeting will be
held on Wednesday, August 28 @ 6:30 p.m. at Zorba’s restaurant BYLAWS The proposed
bylaws have been posted on the Council web site. On the main page
for the Council, click Bylaws, then "Click here for proposed bylaws".
The Columbia Section has approved the bylaws- still waiting on word
from other sections. As sections vote on the proposed bylaws,
the vote results need to be sent to Brent Baker. AWARDS No awards
nominations were received. STUDENT PAPER CONTEST Contest
was cancelled since a date could not be agreed upon in which all
students from USC and Clemson could participate Section Activities Each
section was asked to report on activities conducted throughout the
current year; a brief synopsis of each section’s activities is given(feel
free to correct me on any errors I may have or information I may
have left out, there was a lot if information given in a short amount
of time):
NEW BUSINESS Lee Stogner
discussed the SC Council website features with special emphasis
on the Jobs and Careers feature The PACE conference
is set for April 12-14 with approximately 200 members expected Marilene discussed going
into poorer school districts to recruit possible future engineers John Montague discussed
the possibility of organizing a SC chapter of the Computer Society
so that a Distinguished Lecturer can be established; formation will
require 20 signatures from Computer Society members; there is the
possibility of getting the amount of signatures required by means
of utilizing another society(Power Industry) in conjunction with
the Computer Society members DISMISSAL The
