TO: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OFFICERS SECTION CHAIRS STUDENT BRANCH COORDINATORS FROM: Nancy Gunderson, SC COUNCIL SECRETARY DATE: 9 July 2001 The meeting convened at 7:30 pm at Zorba's Restaurant in Columbia, SC. The attendees were Steve Carroll, David Mills, Allen Thomas, Richard Coleman, and I. The minutes from the March meeting were approved as written. Financial Balance as of 30 May was $2380.33. Paid $500 to SC Council of Engineering and Surveying Societies. Those present approved providing seed money to SECon 2002. See "NEW BUSINESS". BYLAWS Allen Thomas will post the proposed bylaws on the web. Once posted, will send email to sections to get their votes. Proposed timeline is to have section results by 1 October, and to send to RAD by 15 October.. New Business Central Savannah Section had a meeting 25 May, with 18 members present. D. Mills covered some engineering issues about IEEE Colorbooks and NEC proposed changes. The group brainstormed ideas for future meetings. There are volunteers for officers but haven't held a vote yet. Once a treasurer is in place, will begin trying to acquire the funds the section already has. SECon '02 funding. A motion was introduced to fund SECon '02 $1000 for seed money. In the event the conference makes a profit, Council will share in profits proportional to seed money. Motion carried unanimously. The link from IEEE National's website to SC Council's website was in error, but has now been fixed by Allen Thomas. A. Thomas will look into linking student section web sites to Council's page. R. Coleman brought up we need to start now working on awards, which are due in November, and the plans for the student paper contact in February. A discussion about participating in the Joint Council Engineering Conference ended with the decision that it would drain resources from the SECon Committee, but will be discussed at the next meeting. We updated contact information for the Executive Committee. The updated version is attached. Anyone knowing of other updates that need to occur, please contact Nancy Gunderson. Meeting Schedule Council meetings are open to all IEEE members. At a minimum, Council Officers and Section Chairs are expected. If you cannot attend, please send me your updates. Section Chairs may send an alternate attendee. Please make announcement of these meetings in your local section and chapter meetings and newsletters.
