MEETING MINUTES

Date: 9 October, 2005

The meeting was held at Zorba’s in Columbia SC. The attendees were:

MEETING MINUTES

Note: Fall IEEE report noted three major areas of focus for the Council:

  • Revitalize interest in the Council and collaboration with the Sections
  • Assist the Columbia Section reorganize
  • Membership development

I. Sections Congress, Tampa FL

The Sections Congress starts Friday, 13 October with registration opening at 8:00. SC attendees include Lee (SC Council), Brent (to attend for the Columbia), Michael (Central Savannah River), and Jerry Clark (Piedmont). Region III ExComm is Friday morning. Activities/minutes will be posted on the web-site shortly after the meeting.

II. New Officers

New officers effective 1 January 2006 will be :

Brent Baker - Chair

John Montague - Vice Chair

Richard Baker - Treasurer

??? Secretary

III. Membership

Senior Membership improvement is still a goal. Need to assist the sections through motivation and advice on increasing numbers. Advise there is a financial incentive ($2.00 per senior member included in annual rebate) ) to each Section. Need senior membership applications by 5 November 2005.

IV. Joint Council Society

… will have their (civil engineering) conferences in the fall and spring.

V. Treasurer Report

Abbreviated report discussed. No major changes, the Council is healthy with a approximately $4,400.00 available in accounts.

VI. Web-Site

Links to the web-site were updated. This is a continuously recurring need to accomplish. Electronic notices are available and can be set up via the site. IEEE email address alias’ are available.

Note: Upcoming event Engineers Week is 19-25 February and will include a “Future City” project competition (based on the SimCity software game).
