September 11, 2004

Met with the Dean of engineering and Science Technology of Virginia State University (VSU) and his faculty, July 30, 2004. VSU is excited to be a part of SoutheastCon 2007 in Richmond. I sent a formal invitation on September 9, 2004. A copy of the letter is attached to this report.

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) faculty is very reluctant to commit any involvement. Dr. Greg Tait, treasurer of the Richmond Section is very concerned about VCU’s participation, since the faculty does not get any recognition for such activities. The VCU Student Branch will be involved. SoutheastCon 2007 Committee will negotiate space for student activities with the hotel.

Obtained proposals from the Marriott-Richmond, the Omni Hotel, and the Sheraton West hotel. The Marriott is the more reasonable hotel that provides us with space we need without being overwhelmed.

Proposal is underway to submit to the IEEE Conference Committee of Region 3.

Region 3 Executive Committee is scheduled to vote on SoutheastCon 2007 during its meeting October 15-17, 2004, in Atlanta, GA.

The steering committee is being formed, and Dr. David Livingston will head the Student activities portion of the conference.
