September 19, 2004

1. The 11 September 2004 meeting of the Virginia Coordinating Council was called to order by Adeeb Hamzey, immediately following the Virginia Council Meeting in the Innsbrook Technical Center, Dominion Virginia Power, Richmond, Virginia. Present were Adeeb Hamzey, Fred Seelig, Bill LaBelle and Bill Clayton.

2. Since this was the first meeting in recent memory, no secretary’s report was presented for approval.

3. Fred had been present for the Virginia Council meeting, so we waived the presentation of the Virginia Council report.

4. Fred’s primary agenda was the support of Globecom 2007. This is a major conference of the IEEE Communications Society and the first major IEEE conference scheduled in the Washington, DC area in recent memory. In addition to the traditional technical sessions, Globecom 2007 will focus on the para-technical communities of the Washington area. This includes the Patent Office community and Legislative Aides. We discussed the possibility of leveraging our SoutheastCon 2007 efforts. Our common interest at this point is contact with each of the major engineering schools in the Commonwealth and the State Government. Globecom would also like to reach the engineering schools of Region 3, which SoutheastCon can help. We discussed additional ideas such as having a Communications Society focus group at SoutheastCon or other parallel operations.

5. The meeting was adjourned until the 4 December 2004 e-Conference.

Respectfully Submitted,

William Clayton
Secretary
