Delta Star Transformer

Meeting Announcement
Transformers: More than meets the eye
Presented by the Engineers of Delta Star, Inc.
Followed by a tour of the Delta Star plant

Abstract
Substation power transformers are a vital component to the electrical power grid. Due to a growing US population and increasing demand for electrical energy, the power grid is a stressed and stretched infrastructure. Many in the electric power industry foresee a need for investment and growth in this infrastructure to meet the needs of this increasing demand.

While the primary design philosophy of power transformers has not changed dramatically in recent decades, advances in technology have permitted greater monitoring and control to the end user, and these changes have increased implications in controls design. Additionally, with improvements in materials and processes, IEEE test standards continue to evolve to ensure the customer receives a quality, reliable product.

The May meeting will include a tour of the Delta Star facility, an overview of the design/construction/testing of power transformers, and a brief discussion of Delta Star's plans for the future as recently released in local media.

Due to the competitive nature of the power transformer industry and proprietary manufacturing processes and materials, competitors in the design and manufacture of power transformers will not be permitted on the plant tour.
