IEEE SouthEastCon Student Hardware Competition


Virginia Tech and VMI
SoutheastCon Robotics Teams

Abstract: Each year, Region 3 of IEEE hosts a student competition in robotics, and the student branches of IEEE at Virginia Tech and VMI compete with other colleges and universities in the Southeast.

This year the objective is to simulate the sorting of containers at a port. Different colored and sized boxes will be picked up by the robot and sorted for shipping by rail, sea, or air.

IEEE Southeastcon 2013 Student Hardware Competition

The competition was recently held in Jacksonville, FL between April 4-7, 2013. Each team will be giving a presentation on their design strategies, how they built their robots, and how their robots performed in the competition.

Talk: 8:00 PM
Members & Guests $20.00, Students $10.00

From I-81, take exit 143 onto I-581 S.

Take exit 3-W onto Hershberger Rd. At the first traffic light, turn right onto Ordway, going past WDBJ-7, Zaxby’s Chicken, Big Lots, and turning right into the Holiday Inn’s entrance.

Invitation to Judge the Virginia Junior Academy of Science
The Virginia Junior Academy of Science will hold its 2013 Research Symposium at Virginia Tech, Wednesday, May 22. Students in grades 7 thru 12 will report on original research they have conducted. Judges are needed in all fields. Follow the link above for details.

The Virginia Mountain Section (VMS) of the IEEE has been serving members in the Southwest corner of the Commonwealth of Virginia since 1949.

We currently have two Student Branches in local universities and colleges:

  • Virginia Military Institute
  • Virginia Tech

and the VMS Consultants Network Affinity Group

The purpose of this Affinity Group is to share information concerning consulting opportunities, and to make a list of consultants and their areas of expertise available to potential employers.
