Transmission Construction Rep (TCR) for AEP

Abstract: American Electric Power (AEP) is always working to improve the transmission and distribution infrastructure of their service territory to meet the needs of customers. This tour will provide an overview of the operations conducted at the 765kV substation, as well as an informative look into the planning for future load growth and the construction required to be ready for that growth. Hard hats and safety glasses will be required on the tour; if you already have these items, please bring them. If you do not, please let us know and we will be supply them.  

Jeff Rawlings is a Construction Manager in the AEP Transmission organization.  In 1987, he began his career with AEP in what is now GIS Services and after two years moved into AEP Station Engineering.  In 1991, Jeff earned his Associates degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.  After working 18 years in Station Engineering as a designer/senior designer, Jeff move to AEP Transmission Construction Management in 2007 managing station construction projects.  Jeff became a member ofProject Management Institute (PMI) in 2009 and earned his PMP in 2010. 

 

Construction at the Cloverdale EHV station projects began in 2014 and work will continue through most of 2017.  New River Electrical was awarded the construction contract for this project.  Their leadership believes this is the largest electrical station project east of the Mississippi River in the last 30 years.  Jeff currently resides in Goode, VA with his wife, Kim, and daughter, Beth.  He has another daughter, Caitlin, and son-in-law, Mac, residing in Reston, VA.

Overview of station (at Substation House): 6:00 PM
Tour: 6:30 PM
Dinner: 7:45 PM at Bella Pizza (Rt. 11, Mountainview Plaza, near Taco Bell and Carter Bank & Trust)
Costs: No cost for tour or proper protective equipment (PPE).
Cost of dinner is based upon whatever you order (variety of choices between $6.50 and $14.50)

Directions to AEP’s Cloverdale Substation

From I-81, take exit 150A, then turn onto US 11 South. Go past McDonalds, Taco Bell and other fast food establishments in the immediate area, and travel approximately 1 mile south on Rt. 11. Turn left at the substation entrance across from Cavalier Equipment Corporation (there will be a sign that says “AEP Deliveries”). If you go under a railroad overpass on Rt. 11, you’ve just missed the turn. Follow the road into the substation, the road will soon turn to the right, and park at the first building on the right. We will meet inside first.

1.      If you have a hard hat & safety glasses, or if you need us to provide them.
2.      If you plan to join us at Bella Pizza (they will reserve tables based upon how many people RSVP)
