3rd Annual IEEE-USA Career Fly-In
IEEE-USA invited all IEEE members in the United States to Washington, D.C. to meet with elected officials and staff and discuss issues related to engineering careers. This was a great opportunity for IEEE members to express their concerns directly to the people who can do something about them.
The 2007 Fly-In focus was immigration reform. Congress was set to continue debating major changes in the nation's immigration system. High-skill immigration, which directly affects engineers, was anticipated to be part of that debate. Because there are far fewer high-skill immigrants than low-skill immigrants, skilled immigration often does not receive much attention from legislators.
At the Fly-In, participants had the opportunity to express their opinions on this important issue directly to the individuals responsible for making immigration policy. Meetings in Washington are one of the best ways to influence Congress. IEEE-USA coordinated this event by briefing participants in advance of their meetings and by scheduling their appointments.
