P.K.Sen Awards Presentation Meeting

Winners of the 2008 P.K. Sen Awards (Students from Colorado School of Mines and University of Colorado Denver) will be presenting their final results on their Senior Design Projects as described below:

Colorado School of Mines

Arc Flash Hazard Assessment - An Arc Flash Study of the Colorado School of Mines' power distribution system is conducted in accordance with NFPA 70E, and IEEE 1584 - 2002 (Guide for Performing Arc Flash Hazard Calculations). The final results include the establishment of Arc Flash boundary, PPE category requirements, potential shock hazard, and design recommendations which include the selection and coordination of protective devices will be presented.

University Of Colorado Denver

Power Protection System - The development of an educational tool to aid in the understanding of power transmission and the line protection utilizing a microprocessor based protective relay with multiple detection and protection functions will be discussed. The presentation will include a mock transmission line model, equivalent circuit sectioned in per mile sections enclosed in lexan, microprocessor controller with user interface and display, and two sources with a phase shift to simulate multiple sources of transmission lines.

COST: IEEE members: $10.00 for dinner, Non-IEEE member: $15.00 for dinner Student IEEE members: free dinner No charge to any who want to attend ONLY the presentation (no dinner).

Turn left (north) on Decatur and drive about one block to a one-way section of Morrison Road, which turns gently to the right. Brooklyn's is immediately to your right.
