1G to 4G: A Non-Technical Wireless Overview

ABSTRACT

In this 90-minute presentation, we will discuss the history and technologies associated with wireless cellular technologies. The presentation will include 1G through 4G technologies, why they were created, their differences, and will touch on the busicess reasons for their adoption. Statistics on current usage, technologies, operating systems, market share, and trends will also be touched upon. This is a fun and interactive discussion, and no previous knowledge of wireless systems is needed. Topics discussed include:

    MR. STEVEN OUELLETTE(Qualcomm, Inc., San Diego, CA)

    Steven Ouellette is currently the Senior Director of Engineering Learning and Development for Qualcomm, Inc. As such, he is responsible for managing the vast majority of engineering training resources for the company that spans all of their wireless technologies; from topics such as Advanced LTE to advanced microprocessor design to object oriented programming.

    Steven joined Qualcomm in 1996 where he taught and authored courses on CDMA and EV-DO technologies to internal design engineers and to Qualcomm customers. In 1999 Steven joined Ericsson where he educated their engineers and customers on these technologies as well before returning to Qualcomm in 2005.

    Prior to Qualcomm, Steven spent eight years in the US Navy flying the E-2C Hawkeye command and control aircraft. Steven received his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1986.
