To:
IEEE Foothill Section Executive Committee
From:
Ray Aker, Chair, Foothill Section, L.A. Council, (909) 595-3627
Subject:
Minutes of the Executive Committee Meeting on December 6, 2001
There
was an IEEE Foothill Section Executive Committee meeting on Thursday,
December 6, 2001 at IHOP in Upland. The Minutes of the
Committee
meeting follow. Please contact me if there're any corrections.
The
Meeting was called to Order by Ray Aker at 6:45 P.M.
Committee members
present were: Ray Aker, Art Sutton, Mike Sedlar, Chuck Antoniak, Lyle McCurdy
and Bill Holbrook. The Past Section Chair present was Keith Reno. Five other
members and 2 guests were present. There was a Quorum.
The
Minutes of the last 2 Executive Meetings were approved as submitted.
For
the Section, Ray Aker last reviewed the nominations for next year's officers.
The nominations are: Chair- Lyle McCurdy, Vice Chair- Bill Holbrook, Secretary-
Mike Sedlar, Treasurer- Art Sutton, PACE- Bill
Holbrook,
Membership- Charles Antoniak, Education- Lyle McCurdy, Student Activities- Art
Sutton, and Awards- Keith Reno. These candidates were selected and took office
during the following Section meeting.
Regarding
the Los Angeles Council, Ray Aker reported that he attended the
L.A. Council meeting at UCLA on November 10, 2001. At that meeting, the Council
reviewed their plan for WESCON and ECI, and their present operating
organization. The Foothill Section confirm its position supporting the L.A.
Council in opposing the IEEE Excom Edict to dissolve ECI and transfer its Staff
into IEEE. However, the IEEE Board of Directors (BOD) approved the IEEE Excom
Edict at
their meeting in Mexico City on November 18, 2001. Ray Aker presented this
result to the Foothill Executive Committee which agreed with Ray that we should
comply with the IEEE BOD Order to implement this merger of ECI into IEEE.
Subsequently, at the L.A. Council meeting at ECI on December 8, Lyle McCurdy,
the new Foothill Section Chair, voted for a motion to add that the L.A. Council
should evaluate the resolution of the IEEE BOD to dissolve ECI. A committee will
be formed to work with IEEE HQ to reach a mutually beneficial solution.
Regarding
the LAC Bulletin, meeting notices and news articles are due to the
publisher, Schilling Graphics, by the first of the month preceding the month of
publication. Thus, all Bulletin inputs are due January 1 for the February issue.
This rule is necessary for Schilling to meet its schedule. Input should be
submitted to Schilling by Phone (626)281-8907, FAX (626) 281-5646, or E-mail
schilling@sbcglobal.net, all by the first! The draft Bulletin will then be
reviewed by the Publication Committee before being distributed.
For
Awards, Ray Aker last reported that there are still two Committee members
that should be elevated to Senior Member. Keith Reno will follow up to encourage
them to submit their applications with resumes. After the meeting, Lyle McCurdy
