the section has 1322 active members as of the end of October.

efforts.

LA Section--we also get up to 10MB on the National Server and don't have to
depend on LAC for server space.  Bill has setup pages for each section
committee and chapter--they should provide him with content.

III. Old Business
a.    Section/Chapter officer nominations for '03 (nominating & teller
committees; how and when)     all
There was a great deal of discussion on this topic.  The committee agreed
that more people could vote if we included a ballot on our website vs using
a "show of hands" at the Dec 10th meeting.  Holbrook agreed to setup the
ballot on the website.  Sedlar agreed to notify members of the ballot via
e-mail.  Reno agreed to tally the votes (since he was not on the ballot).

Rockwell Collins facilities.

i.    Report on Future City Competition activities    Chuck Antoniak
There was a great deal of discussion on this topic.  The competition is
scheduled for Saturday, January 25th at the Science Museum.  We agreed
again to donate a prize for the best use of electrical
infrastructure/communications with a $100 limit.  We decided that we prefer
to keep the Foothill Section award local--we will present it at the

IV.   New Business
a.    Student request for seed money for bus trip to Comdex '02   Hector
Plascencia, Chair?, ECE Stu Br
There was quite a bit of discussion on this topic.  See agenda attachment
5.  While there were 50 students attending last year, only 10 have signed
up so far.  A bus is not cost-effective so the students want to rent one or
more vans.  We agreed to pay for van(s) but not overnight accommodations
We plan to open up the invitation to all local schools next year. Tariq
moved and Bill seconded a motion to provide up to $400 to cover 1 van or 2
minivans for rental and gas.  Motion was passed unanimously.

b.    Upcoming Section Tour -- Safetran Systems (Tue Dec 10th '02, 7:30 pm)
Art
A limit of 20 people has been imposed by the Safetrans.  So far the
registration is below this limit.

c.    An idea: should the Section invest in a projector for PowerPoint
presentations?    Lyle
We agreed that a projector could be borrowed from Rockwell Collins or
elsewhere since they are expensive and we don't need them very often.

d.    Next Section Ex Com Meeting   Lyle
The committee agreed that the next meeting will be held on January 9th at
IHOP at 7pm.

e.  CIS--we may help sponsor a seminar in May on Wireless Telecom via Steve
Powell at Cal Poly.

V.  Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned by the Chair at 9:41 pm.
