Mission Statement
The mission of the IEEE Foothill Section is to: (1) provide opportunities for members to enhance their personal and professional development; (2) reward professional activities of its membership; (3) encourage members to accept section officer positions; (4) promote and support ABET accreditation activities; (5) promote professionalism throughout its membership; (6) continued support of Wescon activities; (7) promote student chapters (and/or branch chapters) at local institutions; and (8) promote community outreach, as highlighted below:
1. Provide opportunities for members to enhance their professional and personal development. This includes activities such as -- (a) providing technical seminars/workshops to help keep is members up-to-date with current industry practices, (b) providing professional seminars/workshops directed to helping members communicate better as engineers, and (c) providing leadership and team-building seminars and workshops directed to helping members enhance their leadership and team-building skills as needed on the job.
2. Reward professional activities of its membership. This includes plaques and monetary awards, as appropriate, for technical papers, professional recognition, and student projects/papers.
3. Encourage members to accept Section officer positions. By serving on the Executive Council, members are able to enhance their leadership abilities, while also enhancing the mission of the IEEE and the Foothill Section.
4. Promote and support ABET accreditation activities. The section supports accreditation activities at both the local and national levels in engineering and/or engineering technology programs within its jurisdiction.
5. Promote professionalism throughout its membership. By accepting office, each officer agrees to abide by the IEEE Code of Ethics at all times. He/she also agrees to treat all others with respect and dignity in a professional manner. It is implied that these tenants are also applicable to all membership within the section.
6. Promote Wescon activities. The section appreciates the value of Wescon for the on-going development of the electronics industry and will continue to support Wescon in all ways consistent with the Section.
7. Promote student chapters (and/or branch chapters) at local institutions. Students are the lifeblood for continued development of the IEEE. As such, the section will provide continuing support for these activities at local colleges, as applicable to the section's goals.
8. Promote community outreach. The section recognizes the difficulty that middle and high school students have in learning about engineering. As such, the section will provide on-going support for Future Cities Competitions, Math Counts, Future Scientists and Engineers of America (FSEA), and Project Lead the Way (PLTW), etc.
