The National Engineer Week Future City Competition provides a fun and exciting introduction to seventh and eighth grade students by challenging them to design a city of the future following predetermined guidelines and constraints.

The following teams from the Greater Sierra Vista area won awards in the 2005-2006 Regional Competition in Phoenix.

Regional Finalist Fourth Place:  Palominas School - Fortisurbis

Best Computer Model:  Sierra Vista Home Schoolers - Hydropolis

Best Environmentally Friendly City sponsored by the Arizona Council of Engineering and Scientific Associations (ACESA):  First Baptist Christian Academy - Adagio

Best Use of Water and Environmental Resources sponsored by the Arizona Water & Pollution Control Association (AWPCA):  Sierra Vista Middle School - Celtic City

Most Innovative Design of Infrastructure sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers - Younger Member Forum (ASCE-YMF):  Palominas School - Fortisurbis

Logical city model using SimCity and computer design completed Wednesday, November 23, 2005 Submit through Future City Phoenix web site
Research essay and city design essay due Friday, December 9, 2005 Submit through Future City Phoenix web site.  Submissions must be provided in Word or WordPerfect format.
Model, display and reports due to Central Phoenix Library Friday - Sunday, January 13-15, 2006 City models on display at the Central Phoenix Library.  Judging takes place.  Confirmation of team information and deliverables.
Models on display at the Central Phoenix Library January 15-20, 2006 1221 North Central, Phoenix AZ  85004
Regional competition at the Phoenix Preparatory Academy, 7th Street and Fillmore Saturday, January 21, 2006 Team registration begins at 7:30 AM.  Competition begins promptly at 8:30 AM.
National finals in Washington, DC. February 19 - 25, 2006 The winning team from the Phoenix Region will compete at the national finals.
