About the IEEE Hawaii Section

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest technical professional society. A non-profit organization, IEEE promotes the development and application of electrotechnology and allied sciences for the benefit of humanity, the advancement of the profession, and the well-being of its members.

The IEEE organization is divided into regions. The Hawaii Section is part of region six which includes the west coast of the continental US and Alaska. Some of the programs that the Hawaii Section sponsors are monthly meetings, a Professional Engineers licensing review class, a speakers bureau, and various educational programs.

Membership in IEEE is available in two grades.

  • The ASSOCIATE grade is open to everyone interested in the technical fields of IEEE and allows full particiation in all IEEE activities except for voting and holding office.
  • The MEMBER grade requires an electrical engineering or computer science degree from a recognized educational program OR a related degree plus three years applicable professional experience OR six years applicable professional experience.
