Letters to the Editor Policy

1.                   The IEEE Hawaii Newsletter welcomes and encourages letters to the editor.  Letters to the Editor must be from IEEE members only.  Please include your IEEE member number when writing your letter.

2.                   Each letter must be signed and include your first and last name, address, and a daytime telephone number so that we can verify the letter’s authenticity.  Letters without this information and telephone numbers for verification will not be considered.  We will not print anonymous letters.  We also do not print petitions or letters with a lengthy list of signatures.

3.                   Letters may not exceed 200 words.  We will edit longer letters to fit space requirements.  Long letters tend to lose reader interest.  Shorter letters which convey concrete opinions are generally more effective.  If a letter needs to be shortened, we may give the writer the option of editing the letter.

4.                   We reserve the right to reject letters which are defamatory or inconsistent with good editorial standards.  Personal attacks will not be published.

5.                   No more than one letter from any individual will be published per newsletter.

6.                   We do not publish letters soliciting witnesses to accidents or other matters related to potential legal actions.

7.                   We do not solicit businesses or political campaigns.

8.                   When necessary, agree to disagree respectfully.  If you should disagree with an opinion set forth, you may challenge that opinion, but refrain from attacking the person who asserted it.

Letters may be sent by email to ieeehi@lava.net.
