*Boy Scout troop is looking for some assistance in their merit badge program.
April 13, 20, or May 4. Kaneohe, Church near Benjamin Parker school in
Kaneohe, at 6:00PM.
Gary Ting, a boy scout leader, is starting a Radio Merit Badge class in Kaneohe,
and hes hoping that some engineers will also attend to see what its about and if
they would be interested in participating. In the future, he hopes that there
could be an electronics merit badge class (and later computer merit badge. Looks
like the scouts are keeping up with the times) that he or some of the parents
could organize and run with our assistance. Also, perhaps there are those in
communications that can help with the operations part of the Radio Merit Badge
as well? He has some Ham Club members assisting currently, but would need some
contacts to do the radio class in other parts of the island.
Heres an excerpt from his email:
There are about 3 -4 major topics:
1. Introduction
2. Theory, block diagrams.
3. Hand Held/Emergency operations.
4. Actual operations. (aiming toward Field Day)
IIRC, the electricity part of the Radio Merit Badge thing is in 2 (Theory,
block diagrams). The scouts are building towards a Field Day at Kualoa Beach
Park, in Kahaluu, for the weekend, where they will try out their new skills in
emergency communications for their Radio Merit badge. This is as I recall the
facts. You can find out more from Gary at the following email address:
