CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

OCCN Chair Ralph Hileman is traveling on business at press time. He asked me to fill in for him, temporarily. Here we go!

1. Four OCCN members were installed as Fellows of the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering. (See article "OCCN Members Honored".)

2. Former OCCN Chair was honored by Presidents award at OCEC banquet. (See article "OCCN Members Honored".)

3. OCCN participated in a mini-workshop at the Power Convention in Downey. (See article "OCCN Participated in Consultant's Mini-Workshop . . .".)

4. OCCN current brochures and business cards were handed out to about 300 industrial and business attendees at the OCEC banquet as an ongoing part of our promotions effort.

5. A new working group was started, in February (see article "High Growth Concept Support Forum"), increasing the breadth of service to our members.

6. More OC groups are cooperating in providing their meeting schedules. (See "Calendar".)

7. Enhancements to our Web Page (http://www.occn.org/) are being incorporated to improve our Web presence for potential clients and for our members. Check it out yourself!

8. Inquiries have begun coming in to our "help desk" again; it seems that potential clients are beginning to respond to our newsletter, brochure and Web page.

Remember to spread the word about OCCN and actively use OCCN as a resource for yourself and your clients.

Don't forget that OCCN will once again be active at WESCON September 15-17th. Volunteer to help "man" our booth and actively promote OCCN and your business.

-- Ron Taggart, Editor, for Ralph Hileman, Chair

HIGH GROWTH CONCEPT SUPPORT FORUM SAT., Mar. 28, 9:30 AM-NOON

This new group is for OCCN members only. We focus on specific high-growth business concepts that any member is trying to develop. The meeting is divided into segments according to how many of us wish to make a presentation. A presenter will describe some problem area they need to resolve to start their business. Impromptu presentations are acceptable.

To protect intellectual property, we all will sign non-disclosure agreements.

--John McCrickerd, Chair

OCCN MEMBERS HONORED

Five OCCN members were honored by their peers during February. On the 21st, Mike Bryant, Lewis Lewton, Richard Nelson and Ron Taggart were installed as Fellows of the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering (IAE), in recognition of their individual services to their nominating societies and the engineering profession in general. The IAE is the umbrella group for So. California engineering societies. There were many other inductees, as well, including an amazing collection of young men and women engineers many with astounding accomplishments.

Also, on the 28th, Ed Carl was honored by OCEC, which presented him with their Presidents Award.

Fittingly, these honors were bestowed at the Annual Engineers' Week Banquets held by each group. The IAE is the coordinating and sponsoring organization in So. California for Engineers Week, and a year long sponsor of many programs to encourage the young people of the area to enter the profession. The OCEC, one of the constituent parts of IAE, is a council of 44 technical societies in Orange County. A number of OCCN members are active in OCEC, either in behalf of OCCN or other technical societies.

    Congratulations to all five honorees!
