Message from the Chair

I'd like to introduce myself to all of you who I haven't met yet. My name is Jon Candelaria and I'll be serving as your Chapter Chairperson in 2010.

I work for Motorola where I started my career almost 33 years ago. I've held many positions in Motorola but am currently a program manager in our corporate research center leading a team that is working on video (management/storage/delivery) networks and mobile computing platforms.

I've been a member of the IEEE Electron Devices Society for many years going back to the time in my career I was doing that type of work and have served as the General Chair for their flagship international conference. I am just completing my second term as that Society's V.P. of Meetings/Conferences, managing over 160 international events that they sponsor globally every year.

My work has shifted over time and it made more sense for me to join the Computer Society which I did early in 2008.

I want to meet as many of you as I can and I promise you I will do my best to meet or exceed your expectations for our Chapter, but I will need your help.

I have some huge shoes to fill in this position as Joy and the other officers have done a tremendous job the past two years, as evidenced by the fact that our Chapter was awarded the IEEE Phoenix Section's Chapter of the Year earlier this year.

Fortunately for all of us, the officers who have been helping to lead this Chapter over the past several years have stepped up once again and volunteered to help so I am really lucky to be able to fall back on their experience and wiliness to serve our Chapter going forward.

I'll thank you in advance now for your help us identify speakers and/or topics for our upcoming meetings, ideas for special events like workshops, etc.

Please don't hesitate to contact me or any of the other officers any time with these any other ideas and suggestions you have to maintain this Chapter as one you're proud to be a member of, and one that will help meet your own needs as well as those of all of our colleagues here in the Phoenix area.
