I-19 Wireless Corridor

This is a presentation on creating a seamless wireless corridor along I-19 to benefit first responders and also provide underserved rural communities with broadband access.

About the Speaker

Picture of Galen UpdikeSince August 2003, Galen Updike has been the Telecommunication Development Manager for the Government Information Technology Agency (GITA) - State of Arizona.

Prior to working at GITA, his career included 29 years in computer applications, network system sales and consulting.  He consulted and trained in a number of disciplines, including Database, Imaging and Records Management, and Storage Systems, both through his own company, Compu-Source (1986-1991), and representing a number of system integrators and manufacturers.

Most recently, Mr. Updike’s public activities have included his efforts to foster a robust telecommunications infrastructure in Arizona.  He is a past Board member of the Arizona Telecommunications and Information Council (ATIC) and active on its Cyber-security, Government Affairs and Strategic Planning subcommittees. He also served as ATIC’s designated lobbyist (2001-2003) prior to working for the State of Arizona.  He currently serves as a board member of Greater Arizona E-learning (GAZEL), promoting Arizona’s  E-learning industry, and as a board member of the Arizona Mining Museum. 

 Other significant experience includes an interim appointment to the Arizona House of Representatives (2000-01), representing Mesa (now District 18).  As a State Legislator, he was a member of the House Appropriations Committee and on the Interim Committee on Procurement Reform.    Previous State activities included membership on the Arizona Physical Therapy Board and committee work for the Arizona Partnership for the New Economy (APNE).

Mr. Updike is married , with 5 children and 7 grandchildren.
