IEEE Richland Section Educational Events

– Smart Grid Series

IEEE Richland Section, IEEE Power and Energy Society Richland Chapter, and IEEE Richland Section Gold Affinity Group will jointly hold a series of educational events on the topic of Smart Grid. As a sustainable energy system becomes the focus of the world, transforming the present electric power system into a “Smart Grid” requires engineers and scientists from many disciplines to work together, including power, IT, communications, mathematics, and many others. This series of talks will present the changes being proposed by researchers for the smart grid transformation, and display the opportunities for various disciplines.

The second session is scheduled on Monday, August 2nd, 2010, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on WSU Tri-Cities campus, Room TCIC 216. The topic is “The Smart Grid: Why Does It Matter?” presented by Professor Mohamed A. El-Sharkawi, a renowned researcher and educator at the University of Washington. The abstract and Prof. El-Sharkawi’s bio are attached below. WSU campus map and TCIC building map are attached at the end of the announcement.

Pizza and soft drinks will be provided, free for IEEE members and $5 for non-members. The amount may be limited. So please arrive early.
