IEEE regularly grants awards and scholarships to outstanding students in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Prizes and awards are given to pre-college students in math and science generally. Awards are given at the national, regional and local levels.

WSU-TC and WWU Scholarships

Scholarship Purpose:

To encourage the pursuit of an academic degree and subsequent career in electrical of electrical, electronics, and /or computer engineering, or computer science and contribute to the development of technology expertise and industry in the United States.

Annual Scholarship Applications Due: March 14, 2007 (WSU-TC)

For students enrolled or accepted for enrollment for the 2007-2008 Academic Year in WSU Tri-Cities (WSU-TC), or Walla Walla University (WWU). One scholarship will be awarded for each campus (WSU-TC & WWU) in 2007.

The scholarship is presented by the IEEE Richland Section to an IEEE Student or Graduate Student Member grade individual judged to have best demonstrated academic achievement and interest in a career in the areas of electrical, electronics, and /or computer engineering, computer science, and allied fields. For more details see the attached applications.

Columbia Basin College (CBC) and Blue Mountain Community College students are eligible to be IEEE Student members and are eligible for the scholarship if they will be enrolled at either WSU-TC or WWC for the 2007-2008 Academic Year. WSU-TC students should discuss their plans with Professor Scott Hudson, WSU-TC IEEE Student Branch Counselor. WWC students should discuss their plans with Professor Carlton Cross, WWC IEEE Student Branch Counselor.

WSU Student Paper Contest

The Section sponsors an annual WSU student paper contest. A prize of $100 is awarded to the winner.

Mid Columbia Science and Engineering Fair Awar

Each Spring, students from Mid Columbia elementary, middle, and high schools place exhibits at the Mid Columbia Science and Engineering Fair. Each year, the Richland Section sponsors several awards at this fair totaling up to $500. Results are posted on the MCSF website under "Results|Special Awards". Interested teachers, students, and IEEE members (needed for judging) may contact the Educational Activities volunteer for more information.

Bruce Angwin Memorial Scholarship

Each Spring high school juniors from throughout Region 6 compete for the Bruce Angwin Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship provides $5,000 (first place) or $3,000 (second place) toward the first year of college in an electronics or related field. The scholarship is based on academic performance and an essay (not financial need). Application deadline is May 1 of a student's junior year. .
