Surf's Up?
by
Mr. Peter Coffee. Feb 20, 2009
Feedback:
Peter Coffee's presentation about Internet Surfing becoming main stream
was indeed insightful and dynamic. The presentation slides could only
provide around 30% of the information exchange, without his spoken
words. The exciting dialogs throughout dinner and the talk with
anecdotes were extremely valuable and stimulating.
The most awakening notes are on Slide #9 where Peter pointed out the
true value-added professional skills to stay competitive. Other slides
show historical visions becoming real practice and the highly
competitive international forces from India and China. Peter's phrase:
"Use cheap stuff extravagantly" captured how China and India advanced.
It could also be the approach that would allow us to move quickly and
productively.
There were many intelligent questions from the audience and Peter
rebutted some regarding bandwidth requirement and security; while he
enforced other discussions of the changing tides against Microsoft and
Intel's local embedded solutions. There were reservations that real
wisdom would not come out of Instant Messaging/Facebook/etc., and the
Internet wild-weird-west approach might cause "crisis like the
unregulated financial market" - my notes. Peter mentioned all surfing
activities were highly decomposable and recompile-able; and location was
only a matter of law, not geographically significant anymore (Slide #7.)
The evening was further enriched by an excellent surrounding where
on-the-table electric trains delivered bread and salad. The CCC meeting
was embraced in a rather artsy, collegial atmosphere. This style seemed
to become rare, as people felt that they "don't have the time, the
money, and the patience" (the last word Peter acknowledged not in his
vocabulary.)
We voted Peter one of the best dinner speakers.
