SFV Senior Member Elevation Clinic

March 18, 2008

The IEEE San Fernando Valley Section held its Senior Member Elevation Clinic at JD 4440, Jacaranda Hall, California State University at Northridge (CSUN).  The Clinic started at 6pm and continued until 10pm that evening servicing eight active members.

SFV Chairman Victor Moreno and Treasurer Narisa Chu explained the prospective senior member candidates the procedure for the evening.  The candidates were informed of the requirements for becoming among the few 10% of membership that are senior members, including 1. working in the field of Engineering as defined by IEEE, 2. having a career span of at least ten years, 3. having at least five of those years show significant contribution to the engineering community and the community at large, as define by IEEE and 4. three references from current senior level members, one of which needs to recommend the candidate.

The clinic provides  prospective senior member candidates with the opportunity to meet and be interviewed by current senior members in a professional, comfortable environment.  Candidates brought resumes for review and were asked questions about their career accomplishments and continuing goals.

By the end of the evening, each candidate had three senior members ready to write letters of recommendation and/or references.  Dinner was also provided.
