Short-Wave Infrared Imaging:
Emerging Applications and Opportunities
by Rengarajan Sudharsanan, Director, Sensor Products Spectrolab Inc.

September 13th , 2007, IEEE Members and guest attended IEEE San Fernando Valley (SFV) Section’s Joint Speaker's Series presentation "Short-wave Infrared (SWIR) Imaging - Emerging Applications and Opportunities" held at the California State University-Northridge (CSUN). Dr. Rengarajan Sudharsanan (Director, Sensor Products Spectrolab Inc.) presented.
Short-wave infrared (SWIR) imaging is becoming an important imaging tool in many military and commercial applications since this infrared waveband offers visibility that other wavebands do not offer.  In the military imaging applications it can produce improved night vision capabilities compared to other technologies available today.
In machine vision applications it is becoming a vital component and it is finding more applications.  In this presentation, the new applications and opportunities for SWIR imaging in the military and machine vision imaging were discussed.
Dr. Rengarajan Sudharsanan joined Spectrolab in 2000 and started the sensor products group mainly focused on InGaAs based sensor products for telecommunication and military applications.  He has been a program manager for several government short-wave infrared (SWIR) programs to develop the next generation high sensitivity SWIR focal plane arrays.
