Chair and Chapter Chair for Joint Society on Computer and Communications: Dr. Narisa Chu, Senior Member


Narisa Nan-Yu Chu started her career in Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Bell Labs prior to AT&T divestiture. She has subsequently led advanced technology research and development in Telecommunications with Rockwell, Tellabs, Comcast, and Motorola. She has founded 2 entrepreneur companies: C&W Systems, and CWLab International. She has had administrative responsibility and teaching role in California State University at Northridge, California Lutheran University, and Widener University in Philadelphia. Chu managed High Definition Set-Top Box product line within Thomson Multimedia for DirectTV North America market. Obtained her B.S. from Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, M.S. from Iowa State Univeristy, and Ph.D. from Northwestern University, major in Nuclear Engineering, Chu has been active in IEEE since 1973; as the Chair of the Communications Society Chapter in Chicago, Chair of the Engineering Management & Social Implication of Technology Society Chapter in Philadelphia, Treasurer and Secretary of the Philadelphia Section, Vice-Chair of the Los Angeles Council and the San Fernando Valley Section. She has published 30+ papers in various journals and symposium proceedings on topics related to digital voice, data, and video standards and technologies, in addition to 1 earlier book on Software Reliability and 2 earlier papers on nuclear fast breeder reactor safety & reliability simulations.  Chu co-founded the Pennsylvania Young Performers Orchestra with Cellist George Atanasiu and Violinist Lenuta Ceili, in Philadelphia, and continues to sponsor a junior music scholarship for inner city minority students in Philadelphia.


Vice Chair and Chapter Chair for the Photonics Society:  Dr. Rengarajan Sundharsanan, Senior Member


Chair of the Photonic Chapter: Rengarajan SundharsananDr. Rengarajan Sudharsanan is currently the Director of Sensor Products at Spectrolab, Inc., Sylmar, CA, a Boeing Company. He is responsible for developing III-V sensor products for fiber-optic communications and LADAR applications. His research experience spans over the last 20 years in the area of developing new materials and device structures for II-VI and III-V solar cells, radiation sensors, and III-V infrared detectors. Dr. Sudharsanan has published more than fifty technical papers and has three patents. He is a senior member of IEEE and member of SPIE.
R. Sudharsanan received the B.Sc. degree in physics in 1977 and the M.Sc. degree in applied physics in 1979, both from the University of Madras, Madras, India, and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, in 1983.


Treasurer and LAC Liaison: Dr. Victor Moreno, Senior Member


Chair: Dr. Victor MorenoVictor Moreno received a B.Sc. (1993) and a M.Sc. (1996) in Electrical Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de la Laguna in Torreón, Coahuila, México. In 2001, he received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University. In 1994, Victor joined the Mexican Electric Power Research Institute (IIE) in Cuernavaca, Morelos, México, where he participated in and developed several engineering and research projects sponsored by the Mexican Electric Utility (CFE) and the Mexican Department of Energy. At the IIE, Victor was responsible for setting-up the first HVDC test facility in Mexico for the evaluation of the pollution performance of DC transmission line ceramic and non-ceramic insulators. In 2001, Victor joined Exponent Failure Analysis Associates as a Senior Engineer where he provided consulting services in numerous investigations that included the design review, failure modes and effects analysis, and failure root cause and origin determination on electronic and electrical components and systems operating in industrial, utility and laboratory environments. In 2004, Victor joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he is presently a Senior Engineer with the Power Systems group. Over the last two years he has been working as a Power Systems Engineer in the Avionics Systems Engineering team of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission.


Secretary: Elvis Merida


Elvis Merida currently works at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory as an Associate Engineer with the Procurement Quality Assurance group where he is responsible for quality planning of EEE procurements and counterfeit parts avoidance. Additionally, he was selected as the Mission Assurance Lead for two projects to be accomplished by early career hires where he is responsible for identifying and managing the mission assurance program. In 2006, Elvis worked for Evolving Resources Incorporated as a Systems Engineer where he provided technical support to the Department of Defense. He received a B.Sc. (2005) in Electrical Engineering and a M.S. (2008) in Engineering Management from California State University, Northridge (CSUN).

 

Web Master and Photographer: Phillip Vinh Ha, Senior Member


Phillip Vinh Ha,  currently works at Intel Corporation as a Staff System Engineer.

He received a B.S. in 1987 and M.S. in 1991 in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the California State University of Northridge.  Over the last 16 years Phillip has worked for Intel in designing test systems for custom and high volume manufacturing. He has worked on products using various technologies including modem, wired and wireless LAN, RFID reader, CMOS image sensor and proprietary sensors.

Dr. Mark Burgin received his Ph.D. in Mathematics at the Moscow State University and Doctor of Science in Logic and Philosophy from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine , and International Academy of Original Ideas.  He is the Chief Editor of the International Journal on Computers and their Applications. He published more than 500 papers and 17 books.  His practical experience includes design of operating systems for languages for such systems, databases for biological information, and general expert systems, as well as mathematical modeling databases and expert systems.

Faye graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2007 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Minor in Business Administration. As an undergraduate, she was an active member of the SWE, re-founding the collegiate section and serving as president and section representative; and IEEE, serving as the student branch chair and vice-chair. Faye taught Engineering and Electronics to middle school students before moving to California to pursue a career at The Boeing Company while earning a M.S. in Engineering Management from the University of Southern California. She continues to remain involved with IEEE, the SWE Hawaii Section, the Boeing Asian American Professional Association, and the Boeing Women in Leadership. Faye is currently a Quality Engineer at Boeing and expects to graduate with her M.S. in May 2009.
