Refreshments will be served after the tour.

CCG is a complex, multi-layer organization. At its most basic, it is a collection of marine programs and services - Search and Rescue; Boating Safety; Environmental Response; Icebreaking; Marine Navigation Services; Marine Communications and Traffic Services; and Navigable Waters Protection - that are collected under the CCG Marine Programs banner. It exists to support the departmental mandated objectives of protecting the marine and freshwater environment, maintaining maritime safety, and facilitating maritime commerce and ocean development. Support to those CCG Programs is provided by the CCG Fleet, as well as by Integrated Technical Support.

Added to the CCG-specific programs and their related activities is the next layer, which is the support that CCG provides to the rest of the department - primarily through Fleet support as the operator of DFO vessels - to help meet the departmental mandate objectives of managing and protecting fisheries resources and understanding oceans and aquatic resources (marine science).

The final layer is the roles, responsibilities, and obligations that CCG has in the wider governmental context. This would include support to other government departments, such as the platform support CCG provides to Citizenship and Immigration, Environment and the RCMP, among others, as well as support to the Canadian public at large.
