A tutorial on Communications Networks
Date and Time: 30th November from 3.30 to 4.30pm Venue: CSC-3-33, Computing Science, University of Alberta Speaker: Dr. Martha Steenstrup Title: Size Matters: Overcoming the Challenges of Large Communications Networks Abstract: This tutorial will address large communications networks, both wireline and wireless, focusing on the implications of volume of traffic and number of communications devices for the organization, control, and performance of such networks. Among the topics to be covered are evolution of hierarchical network architectures from the 1970s to the present day, asymptotic performance results for wireless networks and their practical implications, and pros and cons of localization and abstraction in the control of large networks. Refreshment will be provided and no need for RSVP. |
