Speakers
Matthew Xie: Matthew spent his first 19 years in Guangzhou China and immigrated to Toronto in 1987. He completed a B.Sc. degree from University of Toronto in 1992 and completed a MBA from York University in 1999.
Matthew held progressive positions in consumer packaged good products and the automotive components. He is currently an engineering manager in a Medium size automotive component supplier. His latest achievement is leading his team in spending two years in developing and launching a deployable side step for a Ford F150 truck. He currently manages projects with annual revenue of $100 million.
Matthew is active in volunteering. He is currently the holding a past chair position after two consecutive terms as chapter chair for PEO York Chapter.
Edward Poon: Edward is a professional engineer for over 30 years. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree from McMaster University and his Master of Applied Science degree from the University of Toronto. He started his engineering career in Toronto on building designs and held progressive positions in management with local consulting firms before joining the Transit Commission in 1999. He is now a Project Manager in capital projects.
Edward is an active volunteer with PEO for the last decade. He is also actively involved with OSPE and Toastmasters. He believes engineers are good problem solvers and have contributed significantly to the betterment of our community and yet we generally lack the skills to promote ourselves. In this workshop, he will share his insights from understanding ourselves to improving our communication skills for career advancement.
