Online registration here
(Deadline to register: June 8th, 2011)
Registration Fee: $500 for IEEE members, $600 for non-IEEE members (Lunch is included)
To keep the course affordable, we need a minimum of 5 people to register for the course. The course will not run with less than 5 people and
fees will be refunded in full.
This 2 day short course provides broad coverage of project management methods,
supplemented by project examples. Each process area described in the Project
Management Institute's "Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" is
covered, with focus on Scope Definition and Management, Cost Management, Time
Management, Risk Management, and Human Resources. Techniques addressing each
of these areas can be applied to engineering projects large or small, no matter how
simple or complex.

Unfortunately, this course does not give Project Development Units (PDUs) directly, but it is compliant,
and can be used under the non-PMI accredited category for credits.
Abstract
Do you ever wonder what makes a project successful, or what else you can do to
achieve better results on your projects? How do people manage extremely complex
projects which such success?
The use of proper project management is rapidly becoming a requirement in many
technically oriented companies and environments. Use of Project Management tools
and techniques can make the difference between meeting or not meeting scope,
budgetary and time requirements. Meeting these constraints is becoming more and
more critical and in many technical fields today the competition is growing, forcing
companies to compete for market share. Sometimes an even more significant problem
is the customer satisfaction - which is closely related to producing what the customer
wants, within the required cost and time. Or more accurately, producing what the
customer really wants. At the same time, the satisfaction of the team members is also a
priority. All of these requirements can be met by using Project Management processes.
Biography
Celia Desmond, President of World Class - Telecommunications, which provides training in
telecommunications management, has lectured internationally on programs for success in today’s
changing environment. She recently completed a project converting the network of a major
Canadian bank to an MPLS network. As a Director at Stentor Resource Center Inc., she was
instrumental in establishing culture and new processes for service/product development and for
project governance. She helped establish a development coaching program for employees, acting as a
coach herself for Stentor and Bell Canada employees. She also coached project managers as they
established a coaching network to build a new project management program for Stentor. At Bell
Canada, Celia provided strategic direction to corporate planners, ran technology/service trials,
standardized equipment, and provided technical and project management support to large business
clients. She has held numerous senior management positions at IEEE including Project Director for
Certification in Wireless Engineering Technology for IEEE, managing a team of over 100 people in
8 different development areas, Director and Secretary of IEEE, IEEE Vice President - Technical
Activities, President of IEEE Communications Society. President of IEEE Canada, and Region 7
Director, Division III Director, Vice President Engineering Management Society, and IEEE Canada
Foundation Board member and previous Donations Chair. Celia holds MSc. Engineering, B.Sc.
Mathematics & Psychology, Ontario Teaching Certificate and PMP certification. Celia has taught
kindergarten, high school, and university at Ryerson School of Business, Stevens Institute of
Technology, and University of Toronto. She is author of Project Management for
Telecommunications Managers (Springer). Her pocket book Project Management for
Telecommunications Projects was published by Wiley in 2010.
