Dear IEEE Toronto member,
We have submitted the required signed petition requesting IEEE to establish
the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity group within the IEEE Toronto
Section. UPDATE - as of March 24, 2004 - our WIE Group is
officially established!
Our group will work according to the WIE goals, focusing on the
following:
1. Enable mentoring and education programs within IEEE and make
available information regarding gender related educational issues,
which may improve the entry into, and the retention of women in
engineering programs.
2. Increase the participation of women within IEEE.
3. Address ways to improve the climate for women in IEEE and the
workplace.
Additionally, the Toronto WIE Affinity group will pursue the following
specific objectives:
1. Share experiences, network
2. Get better understanding of the work place and choices available
after graduation for engineering students
3. Receive and provide mentoring
4. Encourage young women to pursue engineering
5. Socialize, relax and have fun
Election of Officers - the following slate of officers is
proposed:
Chair: Joan Tuzet
Vice-Chair: Visda Vokhshoori
Secretary/Treasurer: Anna Araujo
More information on the IEEE WIE is available on-line at
