Abstract

Two key specifications for data converters are sampling rate and resolution. When designing DSP systems, a trade-off is often established between these specifications. Different types of data converters offer DSP systems designers a wide choice of sampling rate and resolution specifications. This presentation is intended to provide DSP system designers with an understanding of data converter architectures, their specifications and limitations, as well as important considerations for interfacing sensor signals to data converters (i.e. key op-amp specs for buffering, amplification and level-shifting the signal to be converted, the use of RC filters to de-couple the op-amp from the data converter, choosing and using voltage references).

Seminar participants will be entered into a draw to receive a TI ADC evaluation board for C5000/C6000 DSKs.

OUTLINE:
- Introduction to Data Conversion & Processing
- Basic Sampling Circuits and Performance Metrics
- Analog-to-Digital Converter Architectures
- Data Converter Specifications (Static & Dynamic)
- Selecting an Amplifier
- Voltage References
- Decoupling Op Amps and Data Converters
