Biography

Dr. Ferial El-Hawary, P.Eng., IEEE (M'82 - S'86 - F'99,) received the M.Sc. degree from the University of Alberta, in Electrical Engineering (1971) and the Ph.D. degree in Oceans Engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland (1981). She is President of BH Engineering Sys­tems Ltd. specializing in Consulting and Advanced Profes­sional Development.

Dr. El-Hawary served on faculty in the Faculty of Engineering at (TUNS) Dalhousie University, where she established and directed the Modeling & Signal Analysis Research Laboratory till (1997). Ferial has published widely in IEEE refereed Journals in OCEANS Applications. She is Editor-in-Chief of "The OCEANS Engineering Handbook" published by IEEE & CRC Press in 2001. Currently, she is Associate Editor of the IEEE/Oceanic Engineering Journal in Applications of Computational Intelligence, Advanced Underwater Signal Processing, Kalman Filtering Techniques, and Data Fusion.

Dr. El- Hawary has been an active volunteer in IEEE and other organizations in Canada.
