Enjoy a guided 1-1/2 hour tour through a facility that has produced
power transformers from 10 to 1000 MVA, a factory that has produced all
types of transformers including rectifiers, regulators, HVDC and
phaseshifters.
This factory has been in operation for 50 years, first owned by General
Electric, which merged with Westinghouse, and finally purchased by ABB.
ABB has 19 power transformer factories in 15 countries; 3 in North
America - large power in Varennes, Quebec; medium power in St Louis,
Missouri; and small power in Guelph, Ontario.
The Guelph plant is the North American supplier of small power
transformers up to 100 MVA, 230 kV.
It is also the North American repair center for larger units with access
to all designs currently owned by ABB such as ABB, ASEA, GE, Brown
Boveri, and Westinghouse.
Under the same roof is the North American supplier of Insulation Kits, a
very modern insulation manufacturing center supplying kits to all 3 NA
transformer factories.
