Abstract

This is a follow-up of the May 24, 2007 technical conference ‘Reactor Designs for the Upcoming Nuclear Stations Worldwide’. Toronto Star’s energy reporter Tyler Hamilton wrote that day: “… the Toronto chapter of the Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers is holding a public forum tonight to ensure that the Ontario government has an honest process for selecting the right technology."

Over 100 people strong audience from that meeting voiced their interest in the follow-up meeting. Ontario needs badly energy strategy, and key element of this strategy is, beyond any doubt, nuclear power.

The conference will focus on long-term economic benefits, performance and operational experience of four world-leading nuclear reactor suppliers: Westinghouse, Areva, GE and AECL.

Originally timed for two weeks prior to the Provincial election on October 10, 2007, this conference had to be rescheduled to February 28, 2008. It promises lively discussion on the very basis of the Ontario future. It will feature representatives from Ontario government and legislature as well as prominent experts, operators and key suppliers of nuclear technology.

The audience, similarly to the last conference, will include Ontario Power Generation staff, engineering/science students and faculty, retiree engineers, and engineering community in general (IEEE, PEO, CNS).
