| Title: Developments in the Telecommunication Industry | |
| Speaker: Rob Pettigrew National Engineering Manager, Motorola Computer group. (MCG) |
| Abstract: Fast changing global markets and new technology advancements are changing the landscape for engineers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) building solutions for every industry sector. Embedded computing solutions are playing an increasingly critical role for OEMs, where time to market, cost effectiveness and wise allocation of stretched engineering resources are the drivers of success. Nowhere is this more true than in the telecommunications sector, where manufacturers are introducing wireless, wireline and Internet infrastucture applications that run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at an explosive rate. As the world's leading supplier of embedded computing platforms, Motorola Computer Group works in close collaboration with the engineering teams of global leaders in the telecommunications, imaging and industrial automation industries. These collaborative partnerships give MCG a unique perspective, from both a strategic and technical standpoint, on what's driving the marketplace, upcoming technology trends and implications for the professional engineering audience. Rob Pettigrew, National Engineering Manager for Motorola Computer Group (MCG) of Canada will share his insights into these trends and the impact they are having on advances in embedded computing and the development of next generation technology and applications. Among the trends and key technologies to be discussed: - Outsourcing to open standards - The adoption of Linux and High Availability enabling technologies or telecommunications and mission critical applications - Compact PCI - Processor Mezzanine Cards |
