| Summary: Wireless telemedicine is a new and evolving area in telemedical and telecare systems. It involves the exploitation of mobile telecommunication and multimedia technologies and their integration for new mobile health care delivery systems. This talk will highlight actual uses of mobile communications and telematic services in the healthcare domain as well as discuss trends in future personal communication services which will provide new dimensions to existing medical services and areas of outreach that were not possible in the current generation of mobile telemedical systems. A GSM-based mobile telecardiology system will be presented to illustrate design and integration issues, as well as novel signal processing techniques. Dr. Robert H. Istepanian is currently head of the E-MED systems group in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering, Brunel University, Uxbridge, UK, leading the research in the areas of mobile telemedicine and intelligent computational systems. He has published more than 90 refereed journal and conference papers and is currently editing three books in the areas of wireless telemedicine, biomedical signal processing and control systems. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers IEE and a Chartered Engineer in the UK. | |
