IEEE Toronto Section Executive Committee Biographies
The operation of the IEEE Toronto Section is managed by the Section Executive committee, whose members are elected or appointed every two years. On each of these pages, we introduce a member of the committee who volunteers his or her time and energy to deliver the services that the IEEE Toronto Section provides. On your behalf, we recognize their invaluable contributions.

Matthew Kyan, M IEEE - Treasurer Engineering in Medicine and Biology Chapter

Dr. Matthew Kyan received the B.Sc. in computer science, B.Eng. and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sydney, Australia, winning the Inaugural Siemens National Prize for Innovation for his work with 3-D confocal image analysis. His PhD dissertation focused on unsupervised learning through dynamic self-organization with applications in microbiological image segmentation and analysis. His interests are in neural and evolutionary computing, information mining and biomedical image processing. Matthew has also been the recipient of the Chancellor’s Scholarships in Engineering at the University of Sydney, the Australian Postgraduate Award and Norman I Price Scholarships, and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Travel Grant Award. Matthew currently works as an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ryerson University.
