New IEEE Fellows -
Professors Frank Kschischang and George Eleftheriades, both of the Deptartment
of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, have been
elected by the IEEE Board of Directors at their recent meeting, effective
January 1, 2006. To see the entire class of 2006 IEEE Fellows, including

Awards presented at recent AGM Former IEEE President
and IEEE Canada Director Emeritus Wallace Stanley Read was on hand (from his home in
St. John's, Newfoundland) to present the "W.S. Read Outstanding Service
Award" to Miro Forest. Ed Lovrek received the "IEEE Toronto Section
Chapter Chair of the Year".
Bill Kennedy presented the "Sustaining Friend of IEEE Regional Activities
Award" to the University of Toronto, and Professor Emeritus Gordon Slemon
accepted on behalf of the university.
Alagan Anpalagan, Alex Bot, and Pelle Westlind have been elected as IEEE
Toronto Section Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary-Treasurer, respectively for
2006 and 2007.
Dr. Richard Marceau, UOIT Provost, spoke about the rapid development of this
two-year old university in Whitby, Ontario.

IEEE Toronto Women in Engineering is recognized by the IEEE WIE
Committee (world-wide) as the the runner-up for the 2004 Women in Engineering
Affinity Group of the Year award - see image at left (click to enlarge).
Congratulations to WIE Toronto Chair, Visda Vokhshoori, for her
leadership in developing a strong and interesting WIE program that includes
many innovative activity formats - Visda has also been recognized in her former
IEEE Section (Mid Hudson) for notable services and contributions - please see
the Women In Engineering home page for more details.

IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society honours its Toronto
chapter as its Outstanding Chapter for 2004. The joint Toronto chapter which
included AAES has recently been re-organized - please see the Signals &
Computational Intelligence Joint Chapter home page for more details.
Congratulations to Signal Processing (formerly Signals and Applications)
Chapter Chair, Sri Krishnan, for his leadership in developing a strong series
of chapter activities in 2004.

Ryerson University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
publicly recognized the IEEE Toronto Section at its 2005 Awards ceremony
on Nov 23 for its continued support of student activities through its program of awards.
Over the last decade, the Section has provide more that $50,000 in
Scholarships to local universities and colleges. Dr. Wallas Khella,
1978-89 Section Chair and currently a member-at-large of the Section
executive committee, was at the ceremony to present a couple of this
year's Section awards and to receive the plaque from ECE department
chair Dr. Sridhar Krishnan.
