November 11
|
|
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
|
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
|
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

The Independent Electricity System Operator (formerly the
operations centre of Ontario Hydro) forcasts electricity needs in
Ontario, and balances the supply of and demand for electricity in
Ontario and then directs its flow across the province's transmission
lines. For more on this subject, including fluctuations in
hourly electricity prices, please click here or click on the image.

The Dance of Molecules: How Nanotechnology Is Changing Our Lives!
... makes a great Christmas Gift!
Author Ted Sargent (SM IEEE and a past chair of this Section) has been named
by Scientific American magazine as a Research Leader for his contributions to
solar technology within the 2005 Scientific American 50 -- the magazine's
prestigious annual list recognizing outstanding acts of leadership in science
and technology from the past year. Just announced, the list appears in
the December issue, which hits newsstands on November 22nd.
Ted Sargent is a professor at the University of Toronto and a visiting
professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His scientific
research has been widely published, and he is a frequent lecturer at major
international conferences in North America, Europe, and Japan. Ted is one of
the world's leading researchers in the world of nanotechnology and was named
"one of the world's top young innovators" by MIT's Technology Review
Magazine and the Sierra Club has labelled him as one six "Earth's
Innovators" for his groundbreaking work on solar technology.
In his new book The Dance of
Molecules, Ted Sargent has set out to demystify
the complex world of nanotechnology -- the science and engineering of
building new materials and devices from the molecule up -- and offers a
fascinating vision of what this innovative science may accomplish in the
twenty-first century. And the best part is, you don't have to have a physics
degree to understand it.
Ted Sargent will be available for media interviews in Toronto on November 18
and December 2.
To set up an interview or request a review copy of his new book, "The Dance
of Molecules: how nanotechnology is changing our lives", please contact
Colleen Clarke at 419.928.2420 or colleen.clarke@ca.penguingroup.com.

I welcome you to our website, which is
designed to be our members' focal point to keep in touch and up to date,
and to introduce visitors to our Section and the activities of its
members. Our interests are primarily technical, in the diverse
fields of things electrical such as electrical power generation and
distribution, wired and wireless tele-communications, digital networks
and data processing, and the ubiquitous computer.
There are many
other interests as can be seen by exploring the IEEE Toronto links on
the left.
Thank you for visiting, enjoy,
