Dr.Farid N. Najm, FIEEE, received
the B.E. degree (with distinction) in Electrical Engineering from
the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 1983, and the M.S. and
Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1986 and 1989,
respectively. He worked with Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, 1989-1992,

University of Toronto, where he is now Professor and Vice-Chair of ECE.
Dr. Najm's research interests are in the general
area of computer-aided design (CAD) for integrated circuits,
with an emphasis on circuit level issues related to power dissipation,
timing, and reliability. In 2003 he was
conferred as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers for contributions to for contributions to estimation and

IEEE Chapter Chair Sridhar (Sri) Krishnan was recently presented with this year's New Pioneer Awards Science and Technology award. After receiving his Engineering degree in India, Sridhar Krishnan came to Canada in 1994 to pursue at the University of Calgary. Within five years he not only had adjusted to a new system of education and a new culture, but also had made his mark as an outstanding research student and acquired a Ph.D. Today as the Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and an Associate Professor, Sridhar is the youngest Chair for an ECE Department in Canada and is a major player in transforming Ryerson University from a primarily undergraduate institution to a full-fledged research university. He is an active volunteer for the IEEE and founded the International Conference for Upcoming Engineers (ICUE)

Volunteers Invited
Volunteering a few hours a month is a
very rewarding experience - we have a great group of about 45 volunteers
who contribute to the smooth running of our Section - by distributing the
workload over many Section members, the individual load is kept small - we
are looking for a few additional members to help out in the following
specific areas:
- Secretary for our Industry Applications Society
If you are interested, please contact
David
- The Communications Society is looking for a Volunteer to get involved with organizing technical, educational and professional seminars. Somebody from the industry will be an asset.
If you are interested, please contact
Xavier
