Upcoming Courses  

In the spring of 2006, the IEEE Toronto Section is offering a 2-day course in Project Management, for those who manage or work on projects, but have little or no formal training in the field. The course is based on processes recommended by the Project Management Institute, the primary authority on project management.
The course, "Project Management - Meeting those Pesky Requirements", is taught by Celia Desmond, B.Sc., M. Eng., President of World Class -Telecommunications. Click here for more Details.

Hall of Fame  The Hall of Fame section features the IEEE Fellows of the Toronto Section.

Dr.Alberto Leon-Garcia, FIEEE,received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, in 1973, 1974, and 1976 respectively. He is a Full Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Toronto and he currently holds the Nortel Institute Chair in Network Architecture and Services. In 1999 he became an IEEE fellow for "For contributions to multiplexing and switching of integrated services traffic". Dr. Leon-Garcia was Editor for Voice/Data Networks for the IEEE Transactions on Communications from 1983 to 1988 and Editor for the IEEE Information Theory Newsletter from 1982 to 1984. He was Guest Editor of the September 1986 Special Issue on Performance Evaluation of Communications Networks of the IEEE Selected Areas on Communications. He is also author of the textbooks Probability and Random Processes for Electrical Engineering (Reading, MA: Addison-Wesley), and Communication Networks: Fundamental Concepts and Key Architectures, co-authored with Dr. Indra Widjaja and to be published by McGraw-Hill January 2000.Some of his research interests include Virtual Networks & Integrated Resources Management,Internet Performance,Programmable Network Node and Broadband Multimedia Wireless Access.Click here for a link to Dr.Leon-Garcia 's webpage and a few of his publications.

For existing IEEE members, the dues for the current half year are only $18.00 + GST. We require the signatures of 12 non-student members to petition the new chapter. The IEEE Toronto section will be publishing its Annual Print Publication -The Annual Connection and the editorial committee welcomes articles from the section members. Please limit your articles to a maximum of 500 words and submit it as a word or text file to the Editor.

Computer Society Seeks Nominations for Technology of the Decade Award :   20 April – The IEEE Computer Society is seeking nominations for its 60th Anniversary "Technology of the Decade Award," which will recognize a significant contribution to innovative information technology over the past 10 years. IEEE Helps Bring Tech Literature Back to Iraq :   The IEEE and 15 other science and technology publishers have joined together to help rebuild libraries virtually at Iraqi universities and government agencies.
