May 4–7, 2008 — 21st IEEE Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering – CCECE 2008 will be held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, at the Sheraton Fallsview hotel. CCECE is a flagship conference for researchers, students, and practising engineers in the area of Electrical and Computer Engineering from Canada and around the world to meet annually for 3 to 4 days in a Canadian city to present the latest technological advancements and discoveries, to network and exchange ideas, to strengthen existing partnerships and foster new collaborations. May 9–10, 2008 — IEEE International Workshop on Medical Measurements and Applications – MeMeA 2008 will be held in Ottawa, Ontario. See website for further details.
May 12, 2008 - ICUE 2008 - 7th International Conference for Upcoming Engineers to be held at university of Toronto. ICUE was started by members of Ryerson University in 2001 to promote achievements by upcoming engineers. In order to attract more talented engineers to the conference, it has been expanded such that it may be hosted by other universities. ICUE has been developed to be known as an International Conference which provides the young engineers to develop their understandings both in academicals and industrial sections of their field.See website for further details.

Visda Vokhshoori Awarded the 2008 IEEE Canada Women in Engineering Prize
Visda Vokhshoori joined IEEE as a student member in 1996 (elevated to member in 2002) and has been actively involved with the organization ever since. In 2000 she founded the IEEE Hudson Valley WIE Affinity and served as its chair until she moved to Toronto, Canada in 2003. She served as Chair of the Toronto Section WIE Affinity Group for several years until becoming the Section Public Relations Commitee Chair in 2007. She is being awarded the 2008 Women in Engineering Prize, awarded to a female IEEE Canada member who received her first professional degree within the last ten years and who is active in IEEE activities.
The IEEE Toronto Section would like to congratulate Visda Vokhshoori for her achievement and contributions to the IEEE community.
Dr. Bruno N. Di Stefano Awarded the 2008 IEEE Canada W. S. Read Gold Medal
Bruno DiStefano, a Senior Member of IEEE residing in the Toronto Section, is President of Nuptek Systems Ltd. He is being awarded the 2008 W.S. Read Gold Medal (Outstanding and Sustained Service to IEEE Canada and the Institute) in recognition of service to the profession & IEEE
The IEEE Toronto Section would like to congratulate Bruno Di Stefano for his achievement and thank him for his service to the profession.
There are ten awards, six for achievement and four for service, which will be presented at the IEEE Canada Awards Banquet on the evening of May 5, 2008 in Niagara Falls during the 21st annual IEEE Canada Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE08). Nominations for these awards closed on Nov. 30. Your awards committee then ranked the nominations and proposed the recipients who were then approved by IEEE Canada.
