Introduction

Modern instruments provide a fertile ground for application of the latest sensing, communications, computing and signal processing technologies and techniques. Also, the development of an instrument presents significant non-technical challenges as well, such as identifying and protecting intellectual property, managing the product life cycle, and eliciting and capturing the requirements of the end user, to name a few.

Motivated by these challenges, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Toronto Chapter, Instrumentation & Measurement Society (IMS) schedules seminars and workshops on topics of interest to engineers involved in all aspects embedded systems development.

IMS seminars are presented at Ryerson Polytechnic University, located in downtown Toronto. A Mississauga location will be added this year, for greater convenience to our members in the GTA. Attendance is open to all interested professionals and students (space permitting).

Educational Themes

Systems Engineering (Best Practices)
Innovation & Product Development (Best Practices)
Fundamental Techniques and Technologies used in Modern Instruments

General Lecture Information (Guidelines for Speakers)

IEEE is a volunteer organization and no honorarium is paid for talks. However, reasonable travel expenses are eligible for reimbursement. As a token of our gratitude, speakers are invited out for a post-lecture dinner. We require that speakers submit to the chairman the title of the talk, an abstract, a brief resume, as well as convenient dates for the talk.

Lectures are typically one hour, two hours maximum (with a break after 1 hr). Props and demonstrations are highly recommended to elucidate major concepts.
