The 1st workshop on "Web Collaboration in Enterprises" of the IEEE Engineering Management Society will take place on September 28, 2007 in Munich.
Emphasis of the workshop is on case studies and real live experiences with collaboration platforms and tool such as blogs, forums and wikis within professional corporate environments.

Web Collaboration and Social Software applications such as Blogs, Forums and Wikis have shown rapid growth of interest and usage in the public Internet with partially impressive results.

The question arises how these new communication mechanisms can augment and enrich productive and professional collaboration environments in corporations.

Which mechanisms can be adapted from the public Internet and where are substantial differences, for example in the context of openness versus secrecy obligations? Which functionalities are success-critical? Which software platforms exist and are suitable for integration into existing corporate IT architectures?

Which collaboration and communication forms are suitable for which kind of corporate applications and processes? Which divisions are well suited for pilot trials and what are the steps to successful deployment? How does interaction and the editorship processes work? What about acceptance and training needs? What motivates participants?

These and further questions are to be treated in the workshop of the IEEE Engineering Management Society.

Emphasis:

  • Blogs, Forums and Wikis in professional corporate environments
  • Evaluation of communication mechanisms
  • Software platforms for corporate usage
  • Potential areas of application
    • Management and collaboration in distributed and virtual teams
    • Knowledge bases for engineering, operations and service
    • Competitive Intelligence systems for marketing and sales
    • Documentation of projects and products
  • Case studies and field reports
