Lecture on: "Network Localization"

11 February 2013, Athens, Greece

A lecture on "Network Localization" was given on Monday 11st of February 2013 by Dr. Andrea Conti (a.conti(at)ieee.org), IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, Assistant Professor, University of Ferrara, Italy. The lecture was given at Athens Information Technology (AIT) Amphitheatre 2A.

The event was successful, with about 31 participants, academics and students, most of them IEEE members. You may see some photos from the event.

Abstract - Network localization and navigation give rise to a new paradigm for communications and contextual data collection, enabling a variety of new applications that rely on position information of mobile nodes. This talk will present a brief technical overview of our recent activities with particular emphasis on cooperative network localization employing wideband wireless technology from three points of view: fundamental limits, localization algorithms, and network experimentation. Location inference for tagged and untagged objects may benefit from the processing of a small subset of high-quality measurements instead of the entire set of diverse measurements, which calls for measurements selection methods and exploitation of environmental information in location inference. Case studies based on measurements will be discussed.
