On the 8th November 2006, the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.) approved the IEEE Malta Section. Following this, a call for nominations were made in December 2006, and on Monday 8th January 2007, a new council, known as the IEEE Malta Section (Region 8) Executive Council was formed. The members of the first council are: Dr Ing Carl J Debono (Chairman), Ing Anton Cutajar (Vice-Chairman), Ing Keith Sacco (Secretary), and Dr Ing Saviour Zammit (Treasurer). The other council members are Prof Charles Sammut (Professional Development), Ing Dunstan Briffa (Membership Development), Mr Denis Vella (Webmaster), Dr Ing Simon Fabri (Student Activities and Educational Development), Ms Violet Bugeja (Women in Engineering) and Ing Marvin Bugeja (Student Representative).
