Student-Get-A-Student Program
When you experience something good, you want to share it with others. It’s the natural thing to do. |
This is the idea behind the Student–Get–A-Student (SGS) Program. Most members know how beneficial IEEE membership is in their professional lives and what it has meant to their technical and career development. With this campaign, IEEE members themselves can get the word out about IEEE’s membership benefits and as a result, help IEEE membership grow.
Beginning 1 September 2005 and running through the 2006 IEEE dues year which ends on 15 August 2006, the IEEE will conduct the SGS Program to encourage Student members to recruit their fellow students to join IEEE. In return for their efforts, the recruiter will earn a credit voucher based on the number of members recruited. This voucher can be used toward 2007 IEEE dues, IEEE Society fees or the purchase of IEEE products and services. (See Student Incentives.)
Rules of the Program
- Student members may only recruit Student members for the SGS Program. (See SGS Recruiting Tips)
- Completed applications, with full dues payment, must be submitted with the recruiter’s name and membership number -- both are required -- in the appropriate fields on the online application.
- Online applications received without a recruiter’s membership number will be disqualified --- there will be no retroactive qualifying of recruiters.
- The SGS Program may not be combined with other membership incentive programs, such as discounted Society conference membership promotions.
- Applications must be received at IEEE before 15 August 2005. All cash award vouchers will be mailed to qualified recruiters prior to 1 October 2005 and will be valid through 31 December 2005.

- Invite at least one non-member student to attend an IEEE Student Branch meeting so they can experience the professional benefits of IEEE membership first-hand.
- Keep issues of IEEE Spectrum, IEEE Potentialsand IEEE Society publications on display to attract the eye of fellow students.
- Publish an article in your university newspaper or department newsletter telling how the IEEE helped you.
- Post announcements of IEEE Student Branch, Section and Technical Chapter meetings and IEEE conferences, workshops and events on EE Department bulletin boards.
- Welcome your university's newly accepted EE, CE and CS students and use the opportunity to discuss the benefits of IEEE Student membership.
- When discussing Student membership with a prospect, listen for clues as to what they might want to gain by joining the IEEE. Stress those member benefits that meet their needs!
- Suggest to non-member students to check out the IEEE Student Concourse at www.ieee.org/students.
- Remind student friends who are interested in joining IEEE how easy it is to do it by registering online. Make sure that they enter your name and member # as their recruiter to be eligible for this program.
